Requesting MediationTo request a mediation for yourself or someone else call the Mediation Center at (408) 924-1098, email us at mediation@sjsu.edu , or stop by our office in Tower Hall, room 108. When you call us, we will ask for your understanding of the dispute and contact information for the other parties involved. We will then contact the other parties and invite them to mediation. If they agree to participate, we will schedule a mediation session on campus with two volunteer mediators. The center schedules mediations from the morning through early evenings on weekdays, taking into consideration the parties' schedules, the volunteer mediators' schedule and room availability. We will try to accommodate the parties' needs as best we can. Prior to the mediation, you will receive copies of the mediation participation and confidentiality agreement. You will be asked to sign these forms at the beginning of the mediation session, so please review them carefully. ReferralsIf you are calling the Mediation Center on behalf of someone else, the disputing parties should be aware that their case is being referred to the Mediation Center. If you cannot discuss mediation with the parties, we will first send the parties a letter, then we will contact the parties by phone to determine if they wish to choose mediation as a means for resolving their dispute. Note The Mediation Center cannot mediate cases between staff or faculty members. If you are faculty or staff member in a dispute please visit our Faculty and Staff Resources for available options.
