SAN JOSE, Calif. (KCBS) -- The number of San José State students who drive to campus is continuing to drop, as now almost half rely on alternative forms of transportation.
Students make up the fastest growing segment of VTA riders.
"We see that 30 percent of the population takes VTA to campus," said San José State Transportation Solutions Manager Eyedin Zonobi. "That's a little over 10,000 students."
Zonobi says there's been a cultural shift in student attitudes towards transportation, with 12.5 percent of the population walking to campus.
"I use my bike here because I don't really like the parking structure," said student Christopher Vu. "It's really tiny, so it's much more convenient to use a bike."
