Ann Lucas, chair of the Department of Justice Studies, recently passed away after a brief illness with cancer. Her collegiality, professionalism, kindness and compassion will be greatly missed by her family and friends, as well as the many students she mentored, and her colleagues at San José State and throughout the United States. Her roots are deep in the Bay Area where she earned her JD and PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, and was the editor of the Berkeley Women's Law Journal. Lucas served as a justice studies faculty member for nine years. A Celebration of Life was held at 1 p.m. Sunday, November 15, at the East of Eden Events Banquet Hall, 150 Mar Vista Ave., Monterey.
